We have not run Fotoo side by side in a lab, and we say plainly where Fotoo is the better pick.
Fotoo - Photo Frame Slideshow by Bopp Studio is one of the longest-running photo frame apps on Android: its listing shows it on Google Play since May 2014, with 1M+ downloads and a 3.83-star rating from about 6,700 ratings. If you are here, you are probably either choosing a frame app for a spare tablet and found Fotoo first, or you already use Fotoo and are missing something. This page is for both.
Short answer: if your photos are in Google Drive, stay with Fotoo — PicDock does not support Google Drive. If your family shares photos through iCloud shared albums, or you want the tablet to also be a bedside clock with weather, alarm and a sleep schedule, PicDock is worth a try. PicDock is listed on Google Play as "Photo Slideshow, Digital Frame" by DD_studio; it is not the macOS app picdock.app, which is an unrelated product.

When to stay with Fotoo
- Your photos are in Google Drive. Fotoo's listing names Google Drive as a source. PicDock does not support it, and we have no date for it.
- You value a long track record. Fotoo has been on Google Play since 2014 and was updated this month (September 15, 2026). PicDock is much younger.
- You want an app many people already use. 1M+ downloads and about 6,700 ratings mean more people have hit the same questions before you, and more answers exist online. PicDock has 10K+ downloads and 140 ratings — a good score, but a small sample.
- Google Photos that keeps itself up to date. Fotoo's latest update announces "Google Photos Ambient support". PicDock uses the Google Photos picker: you choose photos and they are saved on the device, so adding new photos later means picking again. If a self-updating Google Photos album is the main thing you need, check Fotoo first.
- It already works for you. A frame that runs fine is worth keeping. Switching costs an evening of setup.
When PicDock fits better
- The family uses iPhones. PicDock plays iCloud shared albums on an Android frame; relatives add photos from their iPhones. Fotoo's listing does not mention iCloud.
- The tablet is also a bedside or kitchen clock. PicDock has several clock styles, weather with animated rain and snow, an alarm with snooze, night dimming and a sleep schedule that can turn the screen off. See the bedside clock guide.
- You want to filter by who is in the photo. An on-device "only photos with people" filter is free; a pet filter and automatic person grouping are in Premium. Analysis runs on the tablet — photos are not uploaded for it (how it works).
- You want to mix sources on one frame. For example a NAS folder, a Dropbox folder and an iCloud shared album in one slideshow. Cloud and NAS folders are re-read automatically, so new photos appear without touching the tablet.
- You want to try everything before paying. All photo sources except web upload are free with no time limit, new installs get a 7-day trial of every feature, and Premium is optional.
Switching: what to expect
There is no import from Fotoo — neither app can read the other's settings. Your photos do not move, though: they stay in the same cloud account, NAS or device folder, so you only reconnect.
- Note what Fotoo shows today: which accounts, albums and folders, the interval, and whether it starts as a screensaver or at a scheduled time.
- Install PicDock on the same tablet (Android 7.0 or later). You can keep Fotoo installed while you compare; just do not set both to auto-start.
- Reconnect each source in PicDock → Photo sources: sign in to Dropbox or OneDrive and tick the same folders; enter the NAS host, share and account for SMB (NAS guide); choose photos with the Google Photos picker. Use Add to current to mix several sources.
- Re-create the look: interval, transition, display effect, clock and weather. Some transitions, display effects and clock designs are Premium; the 7-day trial lets you try them first.
- Set how it starts. Instead of a screensaver, many people use "start when the charger is connected" with keep-screen-on; the always-on tablet guide covers this. PicDock's screensaver mode shows device photos only.
- Run both for a few days before uninstalling Fotoo, and check whatever mattered most to you (for example, whether new photos in a shared folder appear on their own).
Fotoo purchases do not carry over, and Fotoo's refund policy is between you and Bopp Studio and Google Play.

- Frameo ("Frameo: Share to photo frames") is a different kind of product: the listing says the app "only works with official Frameo WiFi photo frames" — you send photos from your phone to a hardware frame. 5M+ downloads, 4.76 stars from 145,281 ratings; Frameo+ is $1.99/month or $16.99/year. Is PicDock a good Fotoo alternative?
It depends on where your photos live. PicDock covers device storage, Google Photos (picker), Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud shared albums and NAS, plus clock, weather, alarm and sleep. It does not support Google Drive — if your photos are there, Fotoo is the better fit.
Can I move my Fotoo settings or albums to PicDock?
No, there is no import. Your photos stay where they are, so you sign in to the same sources in PicDock and choose the same albums or folders again — a few minutes per source.
Does PicDock show photos from iCloud?
Yes, from iCloud shared albums: an iPhone user shares an album and PicDock plays it on the Android frame. Fotoo's listing does not mention iCloud.
